JULIE SANKOVICH
Personality Development & Complex Trauma Specialist
Julie was born and raised in Minsk, Belarus and moved to New York as a teenager. Growing up, she spent her summers in Southern Italy, where, at fourteen, a spontaneous mystical experience awakened her lifelong inquiry into the nature of reality and the meaning of human existence.
After earning a degree in Modern Languages from Brooklyn College, she built a successful career in fashion PR, working and consulting for houses such as Versace, Rick Owens, and Proenza Schouler. Immersed in the fast-paced world of global fashion and high-profile events, she gradually began to feel the toll of its relentless pressure and hollow falsity.
In 2014, she traveled to Peru for an ayahuasca retreat that profoundly altered her perception of life. Confronted with the hard truths of her own disconnection and unresolved trauma, she entered an irreversible unraveling of her carefully constructed façade — a process that led her to leave her career behind and embark on a search for what was real.
It was during this period that the vision for Muēo was first conceived as a therapeutic modality that could allow the depth of psycho-emotional transformation often sought through psychedelic experience, but without the use of psychoactive substances. As her search unfolded, Julie continued to map the psyche through experiential self-inquiry, developing the living architecture of Muēo alongside her immersion in multidisciplinary approaches to healing.
Seeking to understand the human psyche the traditional way that teaches through direct, experiential knowledge rather than theoretical study, in 2015 she was initiated into the shamanic path under the mentorship of an Amazonian medicine man. Three years later, she was offered a formal apprenticeship under a Mazatec curandera in Huautla de Jiménez, Mexico, where she trained in the healing and consciousness arts with psilocybin mushrooms for eight years.
Over the course of her training, Julie investigated that realm in depth and finally came to discover its ultimate deception. Following a direct encounter with Christ, she renounced the entire psychedelic and shamanic paradigms, entering the fullness of Truth and His teaching within the Eastern Orthodox tradition.
Today, Muēo reflects more than a decade of Julie’s therapeutic practice and lived experience, bridging the psycho-emotional and spiritual dimensions of healing and growth in service of the restoration of wholeness in Christ.
Julie offers her work through a small word-of-mouth international practice, both online and in person, and otherwise lives quietly and simply, devoted to drawing closer to God through prayer and theological study, creative exploration, and the liturgical rhythm of the Eastern Orthodox Church.
